Minutes - workshop Jan. 26, 2017

A workshop of the Board of Education of the Creighton Community School District No. 13 was held on January 26, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in the High School Library.

 

Notice of the meeting was posted at the City Offices, front door of the high school, front door of the elementary, and in the Creighton News.

 

Notice of the meeting was simultaneously sent to all the members and a copy of their acknowledgment and receipt of notice and agenda is attached to these minutes.  Availability of the agenda was communicated in the advance notice as was the notice to the members of this meeting.  All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was opened to the attendance of the public.  The agenda for the meeting is attached and incorporated into these minutes.

 

President K. Morrill called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m.

 

K. Morrill announced that the Open Meeting Laws Act Poster was displayed on the wall.

 

Members present:  Kay Morrill, Colleen Farnik, Dixie Hanefeldt and Greg Kuhlman.  Duane Fanta arrived at 7:34.  Hanefeldt moved to excuse Tim Gragert due to military duties.  Seconded by Fanta.  RCV:  5-0.  Motion Carried

 

Others Present:  Principal Nilson, Secretary Hoffman, Shari Becker, and district patrons.

 

Shari Becker from the Nebraska Association of School Boards reviewed the superintendent hiring timeline with the board.  She discussed the possibility of an interim superintendent.  Shari reviewed changes to the summulation of comments document and the leadership profile.  Potential interview questions were narrowed down.  The interview schedule was shared and discussion occurred about whom to have help with interviews.  Becker reviewed interview protocol with the board.  She handed out information on superintendent compensation across the state so comparisons can be made.  Shari Becker also went over the current superintendent contract and some possible changes that may need to be made to the contract before an offer is made to a new superintendent.  She will meet with the board again on February 16th to choose interview candidates.   

 

At 9:44 p.m., K. Fanta moved to adjourn.  Seconded by Hanefeldt.  RCV:  5-0.  Gragert excused.  Motion Carried.  The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library.
