Minutes - March 21, 2017

A special meeting of the Board of Education of the Creighton Community School District No. 13 was held on March 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Room 401 at High School.

 

Notice of the meeting was posted at the City Offices, front door of the high school, front door of the elementary, and in the Creighton News.

 

Notice of the meeting was simultaneously sent to all the members and a copy of their acknowledgment and receipt of notice and agenda is attached to these minutes.  Availability of the agenda was communicated in the advance notice as was the notice to the members of this meeting.  All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was opened to the attendance of the public.  The agenda for the meeting is attached and incorporated into these minutes.

 

President Morrill called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

 

Morrill announced that the Open Meeting Laws Act Poster was displayed on the wall.

 

Members present:  Kay Morrill, Greg Kuhlman, Duane Fanta, and Colleen Farnik.  Gragert was excused due to military obligations.  Dixie Hanefeldt was absent.

 

Others Present:  Superintendent Petersen, Principal Nilson, Head Cook Kruse and patrons.

 

  1.  Representatives from nine area schools and the Knox County Cattlemen joined the Creighton board in listening to a presentation on Beef in Schools.   After introductions, Bonita Lederer, Director of Producer Education for the Nebraska Cattlemen, shared more information on the program and the producers role in the process.  The Beef in Schools program works with local producers who donate beef to schools for the meal program.  Sarah Smith from the Nebraska Department of Education shared ideas for the food service program.  Susan Dishman, the Food Service Manager from Thayer Central (a school currently participating in Beef in Schools), skyped into the meeting to share information she has learned through participating.  Many handouts with additional information and a question and answer period provided more information.  Bonita Lederer will follow up with the schools in attendance as to where they want to go from here. 

 

At 8:56 p.m., President Morrill moved to adjourn.  The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library.  The policy committee will meet on March 30th at 4:30 p.m. with the community outreach committee meeting following at 5:30 p.m.  The McDowell committee will meet at 6:45 p.m. on April 17th.
