2016 HOSA State Leadership Conference

UNMC, Omaha, NE

The Nebraska HOSA: Future Health Professionals annual State Leadership Conference was held at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE on March 23rd and 24th.  Three students and one teacher attended the two-day conference.  Students were Shane Asher, Kasey Kuhl, and Bailey Zimmer.  Mrs. Janice Nelson, Creighton HOSA Advisor, also attended and chaperoned the conference.  The three students participated in numerous workshops and speakers, ranging from Flight Nursing and Paramedicine, to a tour of the Nebraska Medicine Biocontainment Unit, where the Ebola patients from West Africa were treated.  Shane, Kasey, and Bailey also participated in the HOSA Bowl competitive event.  This event was set up exactly like a quiz bowl tournament, where each team has to answer a number of questions correctly in order to beat the other team and advance in the single-elimination tournament.  The Creighton team placed 1st, and was awarded the HOSA Bowl trophy in honor of long-time Millard-West HOSA Advisor Jim Johnston.  The team beat the 9 year defending champions from Millard-West HOSA.  The team now has the opportunity to compete at the national level this summer at the HOSA: Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nasheville, TN.
