As a reading specialist at Creighton Community School, I teach reading skills to all K-6 students. This may involve a whole class, small group, or individual student. Classroom performance and AIMsweb scores deternine which pupils need extra reading help. Students that do not meet the required benchmark are placed in title progams or automatically get extra reading practice. During a 20 - minute period reading skills taught in the regular class are reinforced and practiced. This includes vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, phonics, decoding and sight words as well as writing practice. Students have an opportunity to review for NeSA and AIMSweb testing in small groups. Also, Accelerated Reading Books are read and discussed. Reading Specialist, Mrs. Neva Doerr, is available during the 4-6 noon recess and after school for any student that wants extra time to read their AR books or complete missing reading assignments. Please notify the school office if your child is planning to stay after school to read.
