Objectives: Students will analyze the politics of Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe.
Standards: 12.1.3
Overview: Students will begin class with a 5 minute writing prompt. Students will then begin reading the chapter three packets. After they have finished reading, students are to answer the questions in section one and two of the packet. Time at the end of class will be given to work on notebook assignments.

Lesson: CH. 3, Sec. 3 & 4
Objectives: Students will analyze how Americans moved westward and gained new territory through diplomacy and war.
Standards: 12.1.3
Overview: Students will begin reading sections 3 and 4 of the chapter 3 packets. They will then answer the questions at the end of the packet. Any time at the end of class will be given to work on notebook assignments.

Lesson: CH. 4, Sec. 1 – The Divisive Politics of Slavery
Objectives: Students will learn how disagreements over slavery heightened regional tensions and led to the breakup of the Union.

Overview: Students will hand in their Ch. 3 packets and Notebooks. We will then start notes for Ch. 4. Students will have time to begin work on their Ch. 4 packets.

Objectives: Students will learn about what is going on in the world and how these events may directly affect them.
Standards: 12.1.13
Overview: Students will watch an episode of CNN 10 and take notes on what they believe to be important. A discussion will follow.
