Course Overview
Welcome to the 8th grade section of American HIstory. During our class periods we will be covering not only American history as a whole, but also the state of Nebraska's history. We will cover Nebraska history during the first few months of school. There are six chapters that will be studied from in the textbook Journey Through Nebraska. Topics included will be location, geography, famous individuals, and government officials along with historical events. When Nebraska history is completed, we will spend the rest of the year in the textbook, History of the United States, Beginnings to 1877. A chronological approach will be used in this book starting with studying the earliest people in America. We will continue on learning about early Native Americans, Christopher Columbus, the early colonies, and the American Revolution. We will conclude the school year with lessons on the Civil War.
