Creighton Girls Basketball

So far the Lady Bulldogs Basketball team has had a great season with a record of 3-1. This is the best start the girls have had for a few years now.  There are 14 players. The team has 4 returning starters and a strong freshman group contributing as well. Kyle Kibbie, the head coach, is assisted by Joe Pfanstiel and Ashly Kettleson, the new math teacher at CHS this year.

They started off their season with a loss after playing the West Holt Huskies, the score was Creighton 44 to West Holt's 53. Leading scorers for the match up were Ashtyn Fritz with 20 points, followed by Maycee Zimmerer and Clarissa Becker with 6, and Charlize Wilmes with 5. 

The next game the Lady Dogs faced was against Wausa's Vikings. It was a close game! Creighton took a 2 point lead into halftime and then outscored the Vikings 12-5 in the 3rd quarter to build their final cushion. Scorers included Charlize Wilmes with 16. Ashtyn Fritz and Maycee Zimmerer also were in double figures with 13 and 11. Also scoring was Clarissa Becker, Bryna Fanta, and Christen Curtis with 2 each. Ashtyn had 9 rebounds and Maycee 8. Maycee, Bryna, and Charlize each had 4 steals, and Ashtyn led with 4 assists.

The Neilgh-Oakdale game was a close one too. The girls varsity team kept the pressure on the Warriors the whole game and came home with a 50-42 victory. Creighton trailed by two at the end of the first quarter but went into the half tied 20-20. We pulled ahead in the final two quarters. Maycee Zimmerer led the team with 18 points. Jessica Stevens put in 10, and close behind was Ashtyn Fritz and Bryna Fanta with 9 each. Charlize Wilmes added 4. Maycee also retrieved 6 rebounds while Jessica picked up 3. Ashtyn and Maycee each had 4 assists, and Maycee had 8 steals.

Topping the Tigers 49-26 the team earned themselves another victory for their first home game of the season. Taking a 2 point lead after one quarter, the Bulldogs led 20-10 at half-time. In the third quarter, Creighton came out with 14 points and shut out Osmond, which then led to the final 23 point victory. Maycee Zimmerer scored 16 points and Ashtyn Fritz was right behind with 15. Charlize Wilmes also scored in double figures with 10 points. Jessica Stevens and Clarissa Becker had 3 points each, and Kendall Wolverton had 2. Clarissa was the top rebounder with 9, while Maycee had 8. Ashtyn and Jessica led with 4 assists each, and Maycee had 5 steels.
