Wrestling State Duals

February 29, 2016

On Saturday February 27th, the Bulldog wrestling team went to Kearney to compete in the Wrestling State Duals which they qualified for at state the previous weekend. The team left on Friday so they could bond as a team the night before. Saturday morning the Bulldogs started with a dual against Elkhorn Valley. They won their first dual 37-36 over the team that won in our district. Every match counted. Connor Hazen had a huge match beating the State runner-up in his weight class. Junior Brady Wortman was the make it or break it when it came to winning this dual.

For the second dual that day the Bulldog Wrestlers faced Sutton. They beat Sutton 34-30. To end the State Dual tournament the wrestlers faced Amherst. The Bulldog Wrestlers placed 10th the previous weekend at the State individual tourney, with 5 qualifiers and 2 state placers. Amherst ended as the State champs that same weekend with 12 qualifiers and 6 state placers. Knowing this the Bulldogs gave it everything they had and only ended up losing by 9 points. Final score being 39-30.

The Bulldog Wrestlers ended second overall at the State Dual tourney. Senior Garret Zimmerer ended that weekend with 142 career wins tying the school record with previous wrestler Jeff Wortmann.

Congratulations to the Bulldog Wrestling team on a great season!
