Veterans Day!

by Abbey Schwindt

November 18, 2011

On Friday, November 11th, the Veterans Day Program was held in the high school gym.  The Vets walked into the gym while the high school band played "Armed Forces March", directed by Mrs. Wortmann.  After that, the Pledge of Allegiance was said, and Andrew York, the third place winner of the Voice of Democracy, gave his speech.  The band again played yet another beautiful song called "Song of Freedom".  Next, Chelsey Kracht, the second place winner of the Voice of Democracy speech, gave her speech.  Alexandra Larson was next on the agenda.  She played a gorgeous song called "Celebration" on her violin.  Then came the first place winner, Aaron Von Seggern.  The topic this year for the Voice of Democracy Speech was, "Is there pride in serving in the US Military?".  SGT. Dan Kienow was next on the podium and gave a speech about his time serving.  Then, Tanner Homan played Taps and we had a moment of silence.  Finally, our Anthem singers sang The National Anthem, directed by Mrs. Van Metre.  The colors were retired and the vets proceeded out with another song by the band.  The Ceremony was directed by Ken Meyer.
