UNK Interfraternity Council Incoming Student Scholarship– 1 @ 250, must be male, must attend UNK, must demonstrate leadership, commitment to academics and show involvement in extracurricular activities.  Need not join a fraternity to receive this scholarship.  Deadline:  August 10, 2007

UNK Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity SLAG Scholarship – 1 @ $250; h.s. graduating males attending UNK in the fall are eligible to apply. SEPTEMBER SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Union Bank and Trust Scholarship – 25 @ $500, must attend college in Nebraska, open only to Nebraska high schoolers, GPA of 3.0, 2 or 3 recipients are selected each month beginning October 31.  Applications are available online and are accepted between September 21 and March 15.

Wells Fargo Financial Servicesprovides college preparation material and College STEPS for high school students on their website.  You can sign up for electronic postups on various topics, such as college selection or scholarships.  In addition, seniors are eligible for one of 250, $1,000 college scholarships. Sign up by completing a short survey online.
 

OCTOBER SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Coca-Cola Scholarship Program- 50 @ $20,000, and 200 @ $10,000, based on character, achievement, leadership, extra curricular activities, part-time employment, motivation to serve and succeed, GPA of 3.5 or better.  Apply on-line by accessing website.  Deadline:  October

Coca-Cola Two Year Scholarship Program- 350 @ $20,000, and 200 @ $10,000, based on character, achievement, leadership, extra curricular activities, part-time employment, motivation to serve and succeed, GPA of 3.5 or better.  Apply on-line by accessing website.  Deadline:  October

Hearst Foundation/U.S. Senate Youth Scholarship- 1 @ $2,000 (from the state of Nebraska) plus an expenses paid trip to Washington D.C., must hold or have held an elected office in high school (class officer or student council only), must complete a brief test on American and Nebraska Government as a junior or senior.  Deadline:  September

Heartland Latino Academic Scholarship – several @ $1,000; must be of Latino/Hispanic heritage pursuing a post-secondary education in the state of Nebraska.  Deadline:  October 1.

Horatio Alger Scholarship- 100 @ $2,500 x 4 years and 100 @ $4,000; GPA of 2.0, involved in extracurricular activities, strong desire to pursue and complete a higher education, show integrity, hard work, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, must earn a 4-year bachelor's degree (may start at a 2 year college).  Apply online. Deadline:  October

Outstanding Students of America- 50 at $1,000, GPA of at least 3.0, service to your community, school activities, and academic achievements.  Application can be accessed on website.  Deadline:  October

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards- 50 @ $1,000, and 10 @ $5,000, must be engaged in exemplary service to your community, essays on impact, inspiration, effort and personal growth from your volunteer service to your community or school.  Deadline:  October

US Bank Online Scholarship- 30 @ 1,000, 2 or 4 year college, selected by a random drawing for those who visit and apply on-line.  Deadline:  Applications accepted online from October - February.
 

NOVEMBER SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Culinary Institute of America "Cream of the Crop" Scholarship- 5 @ $5,000, 5 @ $1,000, must major in the culinary arts or in the hospitality or food industry in college, must be in the top 10% of high school class.  Deadline:  November

Discover Colleges Scholarship Drawing – free private college information service as well as a $2,500 private College Scholarship drawing. Log on to register.

Nomination to U.S. Service Academics- for top students attaining one of our other Service Academics, full tuition, books, and housing plus a living allowance. Deadline:  November

WSCand Chadron State College RHOP Scholarships- several full tuition scholarships in medicine and dentistry. Guaranteed admission into a professional health care program at UNMC in the following areas:

  • Wayne State College - dental hygiene, dentistry, medicine, and pharmacy.
  • Chadron State College -  the same fields as WSC with the addition of physicians assistant, radiography, physical therapy, and medical technology.
  • Full tuition scholarship for three years to the Dentistry and Medicine (physician) programs.
  • GPA of 3.5, ACT score 24 or higher, must submit application, essay, 3 letters of recommendation, service and leadership activities.  Deadline:  November

ROTC Scholarships- for upper level students (top 20% of your class) who are willing to serve as officers for a period of time in the armed forces upon graduating from college in exchange for full and other benefits.  There is a unique ROTC Scholarship for any student studying nursing.  ROTC is not offered at every college in Nebraska.  Deadline: November

Sam Walton Community Scholarship-6,700 @ $1,000 (one in our area), proof that you took the ACT, GPA 2.5, prove financial need.  No paper applications are available.  You can obtain the actual scholarship at www.scholarshipadministrators.net and use an access code which you must obtain from your guidance counselor. The scholarship is available on-line from November 1 – January 20.

Samsung American Legion Scholarship -  varies, 10 @ $20,000 & 88 @ $1,000; High school juniors who participate in and complete either an American Legion Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program and be a direct descendant, i.e. child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc. or a legally adopted child, of a U.S. wartime veteran who served on active duty during one or more of the periods of war. See the website for more information. Deadline: Normally the application is submitted to program staff upon arrival at your respective Boys/Girls State program.

Scholarship America – varies, programs managed by Scholarship America® manage a scholarship programs open to students in the general public. Deadline: varies according to the scholarship.

UNL Allen Dayton Nebraska Young Entrepreneur Contest- 1 @ $2,000, 1 @ $1,000, 1 @ $500, must attend UNL and enroll in Entrepreneurship 121, must be independent, action-oriented, creative, confident, and opportunity seeking the attributes of a successful entrepreneur.  Deadline:  November

UNL Honors Program-several @ a book stipend for 4 years, 3.5 GPA, ACT 25 or higher. Deadline:  November & March

UNL J.D. Edwards Honors- several @ free room and board for four years, renewable if academically successful, interest for computer science, business or engineering, community involvement, strong communication skills, ACT 31 or higher, top 10% of class, GPA of 3.5. Deadline:  November

Wal-Mart/Sam Walton Community Scholarship- Several @ $1,000, service to your community, GPA of 2.5 or higher, ACT score, copy of parent’s tax returns, transcript, extracurricular activities, may not be a Wal-Mart employee or child of an employee. Students need to logon to www.walmartfoundation.org for more information.  The scholarship is available at www.scholarshipadministrators.net.  Use access code (SWCS) to complete the application process.  Deadline:  Will accept applications November – January.

 

DECEMBER SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Air Force ROTC Scholarships- several full tuition, book fees, living stipend of $250-$400 per month, academic components for the average recipient is as follows:  ACT 27, GPA 3.59, top 9% of class, 25% will major in electrical engineering or meteorology, 50% will major in other engineering or scientific/technical fields, the remaining 25% will major in other fields.  Apply online.  Deadline:  December

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship – 52 @ $10,000 (one in each state); GPA 3.5, ACT score, available to graduating seniors who are ambitious and motivated, as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community, or work activities, and be recommended by an unrelated adult who can attest to the student’s achievement; call 800-537-4180 or visit the guidance office for a scholarship application.  Deadline:  December

Burger King Scholars Program – 700 @ $1,000, one high school senior from our school may be nominated; GPA of 2.5 or higher; work at least 15 hours per week; community service; financial need.  Deadline:  December

DAR Good Citizens Scholarship – 1 @ $250, 1 (national) $3,000, must demonstrate dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism, high school activities, future plans, service efforts, high school transcript, 2 letters of recommendation, an essay which must be written under the direct supervision of a guidance counselor. Deadline: December

Hamilton College in Lincoln, NE- 2 @ $5,000. Need to attend a scholarship testing day. Deadline:  December

Imation Computer Arts Scholarships- 25 @ $1,000 and a free trip to Minneapolis, must submit and original work of creative art on a 1.44 MB diskette and be accompanied by two hard copies, must also fill out our regular scholarship application.  Deadline:  December

Martha & Don Romeo/Nebraska Assn. of Fair Managers Scholarship – 2 @ $500, one to a male and one to a female student, must have exhibited 4-H projects at a county fair in the past four years, 2.5 GPA, support and involvement in school and community, goal-oriented.  Deadline: December

Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarship- awards of $300-$1,000, must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. institution, essay that describes the applicant's career, vocational, or academic goals, it is NOT necessary that the applicant be a member of Mensa.  Deadline:  December

Nebraska Softball Foundation Scholarship- several @ $500, GPA 3.0, must have played softball in the past year, school and community activities. Application online.  Deadline:  December

Student Challenge Awards Program- seeks students with demonstrated talent in the arts and humanities, and are interested in the sciences.  Students work with scientists, following the daily schedules and research plans for each site.  Visit website for more information.  Deadline:  December

Society of Automotive Engineering Scholarships (SAE) - several @ varying amounts at several different colleges and universities, ACT of 21 or better, GPA of 3.5 or higher, must study engineering. Deadline:  December

UNK Omaha World Herald/ Kearney Hub Scholarships and Honors Programs- several with room waiver, full tuition, fees, and books, ACT of 28 or above, top 10% of high school class, leadership and activities, written essay.  (It is possible to be a part of UNK's Honor's Program without receiving a scholarship.  Requirements are ACT of 26, top 25%, written essay.) Deadline:  December. 

U.S. Air Force ROTC Nursing Scholarships- full tuition, fees and books, $150 monthly living allowance, must be in top 40% of class, ACT of 24, must have good moral character, must serve 4 to 6 years on active duty as an Air Force officer.  Deadline:  December

Wayne State College Academic Excellence Scholarship – several @ full-tuition, must show academic excellence and want to pursue rigorous academics at college, must be nominated by your high school guidance counselor.  Deadline:  December 1.

Wayne State College Merit Scholarships several @ varying amounts; can include full tuition, room and board; plus $500 stipend; 3.5 GPA, ACT of 25 or higher, 2 letters of recommendation, essay, activities, awards, involvement in school and community.  These include:  John G. Neihardt, Omaha World Herald, Presidential, Dean’s, and the Academic Achievement, Leadership Award, and Multicultural Awards. Deadline:  December 1
 

JANUARY SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

A reminder that all UNL, UNO Regents (full tuition), President’s or Chancellor’s, Canfield, David, and any other academic scholarships from these three schools are due by January 15.  Minimum ACT to receive full tuition starts at 28 or 29.

America’s Homecoming Queen – Community Service and Educational scholarship.  Must be Homecoming Queen, or if the queen isn’t attending it can be someone in the court.  The student will go through a selection process in order to be eligible for scholarships.

American Planning Association School Scholarship Essay Contest – 1 @ $5,000, 10 honorable mention $100 awards, must write a 1,200 or 1,500 word essay on “Creating a Green Neighborhood Plan”, details can be found on the website. Deadline:  January

Chadron State College Academic Scholarship several at varying amounts, depending on the student's GPA and ACT scores.  Deadline: January

Creighton University- has a priority Academic Scholarships.  Deadline:  January

Elk's National Foundation "Most Valuable Student" Scholarships- 2 @ $60,000, 2 @ $40,000,  2 @ $20,000, 2 @ $16,000, 2 @ $12,000, 4 @ $10,000, 4 @ $8,000, 482 @ $4,000, GPA of 3.5, high school transcript, excellent leadership, ACT of 25 or better, 350 word statement of goals, 1 to 3 letters of recommendation, community service, and financial need.  This is a great scholarship that requires a lot of work, so start on it soon! Deadline:  January

Hastings College Walter Scott Scholarships- 3 @ full tuition, 8 @ $8,000  per year, top alternates are eligible for the Trustee's Scholarship @ $6,800 per year or the President's Scholarship @ $6,300 per year, must be in top 20% of class,
ACT of 26, resume of school and community involvement, strong evidence of leadership, schedule an interview between October 1 and January 26 at the college.  Deadline:  January

Johnson and Whales Culinary Arts University of Denver National Recipe Scholarship-  full tuition scholarship and three partial scholarships in each category, plus a $1,000 scholarship for each state winner, must submit an original recipe and a color photo of your creation for a healthy family dinner or a healthy dessert.  Finalist will be chosen for a cook-off in Denver in March.  Deadline: January

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarships – several @ up to $40,000; must own and operate your own business while in high school; have 1 paid employee; graduation from high school. Apply online.  Deadline:  January

National Peace Essay Contest Scholarship- several awarded each year (the largest amount awarded is $10,000; must be a high school senior, complete a 1,500 word essay on a topic related to peace, further details about the essay and how to write it are on the website.  Deadline: January

Nebraska Bankers Educational Foundation (NBEF) – 8 @ $1,000, must be a Junior or Senior in college, must be a legal resident of Nebraska, must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance, accounting, economics or other business related major at a Nebraska college. Deadline: January

Nebraska School Counselor Association and Wells Fargo Bank – 1 @ $500,

any graduating student pursuing a postsecondary education is eligible.

Nebraska Elk’s Association J.C. Ferguson Golf Scholarship- 1 @ $500, must participate in high school golf and plan to participate in college golf, ACT score, GPA of 3.0, 3 letters of recommendation.  Deadline:  January

Nebraska Elk's Past Exalted Ruler's Scholarship- 6 (3 boys, 3 girls) 2 @ $700, 2 @ $500, 2 @ $400, GPA 3.0, ACT score, activities and community involvement, 3 letters of recommendation, financial need, may attend a 2 year, 4 year college or any vocational, technical college.  Deadline:  January

Nebraska Elk’s Vocational Scholarship -6 @ varied amounts to $1,000, must attend a vocational, technical 1 or 2 year college in Nebraska, 200 word essay on accomplishments, activities, and goals, 2 letters of recommendation, Deadline:  January

Nebraska Office Professional Association Scholarship– 1 @ $1,000; must be pursuing an office related career, essay 3 letters of recommendation, completed 2 high school business courses, high school transcript.  Deadline:  January

Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees Scholarships- several at full tuition at WSC, Chadron State, or Peru State, may only apply to one of these colleges for this scholarship, ACT of 25, GPA 3.0, 1 letter of recommendation, must attend college full-time the following fall.  Deadline:  January

Peter Kiewit Foundation Legacy Scholarship - several @ $7,500 x 4 years, top 20% of class, financial need (must include the results from the College Estimator in your senior folder), 25 ACT score or higher, honors and awards, work history, extra curricular activities, attend college in Nebraska.  Deadline:  January

Peter Kiewit/Walter Scott Scholarships- several from $3,000 to $7,000 per year for four years if GPA of 3.2 is maintained, must attend the UNO's newly completed Peter Kiewit Institute of Information Science, Technology and Engineering.  (It is a branch of UNO.)  Deadline:  January

Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship for Future Educators- 3 @ $1,000, must be a graduate of a Northeast Nebraska public high school, must plan to be a teacher, 500-750 word essay, GPA of 3.0 or higher, school and community activities, 2 letters of recommendation, high school transcript.  Deadline:  January

Sam Walton Community Scholarship-6,700 @ $1,000 (one in our area), proof that you took the ACT, GPA 2.5, prove financial need.  No paper applications are available.  You can obtain the actual scholarship at www.scholarshipadministrators.net and use an access code which you must obtain from your guidance counselor. U.S. Navy NROTC Scholarship Four-year full tuition which can cover up to $180,000 in educational expenses plus the student will be entitled to a monthly stipend beginning at $250 a month. Requirements include ACT scores of 21 Math & 22 English and sound moral character. Applicants should begin filling out the application early!

University of South Dakota Academic Scholarships- several full tuition and other varying amounts.  Deadline:  January

In order to apply for the Nebraska Methodist College scholarships below, you must meet at least one of the following criteria: GPA of 3.5 or above, ACT of 25 or above, Top 10% rank in class.

      Becker Presidential Scholarship – $8,000 for 4 yrs.; must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above

      Wishmeier Dean’s Scholarship – $5,000 for 4 yrs.; must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above

      Excellence in Allied Health Scholarship - $5,000 for 2 yrs.; associate degree program in allied health; must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above.

      Achievement Scholarship - $1,000 for one year; awarded to alternates for the Presidential Scholarship.

      Horizon - $3,000 for one year; GPA of 2.5, ACT of 20 or above.

      Dove Scholarship - $4,000 (2 year or 4 year award); financial need; may be first-generation students.

      Kathryn Montgomery ACE Scholarship - $6,000 (one year award); must demonstrate financial need

 

NORTHEAST SCHOLARSHIPS
(February 1 Deadlines)

Many @ varying amounts.  Must be completed online.  Go to “Quick Links” menu, select “Financial Aid/Scholarships.” Select the “On-line Scholarship Application” link on the left-hand side of the screen and follow the directions.  That single application will be used to consider students for all NECC scholarships except the Ak-Sar-Ben scholarship which requires a separate application.  Please request that your guidance counselor send your high school transcript to the NECC financial aid office.  Deadline:  February 1

 

FEBRUARY SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Ag Cooperative Safety Director of Nebraska Scholarship – 2 @ $500, must be enrolled in one of these Ag programs in college –Agribusiness, Agronomy, Animal Science, Diversified Ag, Irrigation, Mechanical Ag, or other ag programs, short essay on financial need, goals, activities, leadership, work experience resume.  Applications can be picked up in the guidance office. Deadline:  February

AXA Achievement and Community Scholarships – 12 @ $2,000, open to students who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive and determination, respect for self, family and community and the ability to succeed in college. Deadline:  February

Best Buy Scholarships -9 in Nebraska, 8 @ 2,000, 1 @ 1,000, solid academic record, GPA 3.5, exemplary community service, apply at best buy.com and link to Community Relations to find the scholarship application.  Deadline:  February

UNL Beta Sigma Psi National Lutheran Fraternity – several of varying amounts, must attend UNL, must be Lutheran and male, show leadership in school, community and your church, GPA 2.5, ACT score, narrative, 2 letters of recommendation.  Deadline:  February

Briar Cliff Richard Doyle Leadership Scholarship- several @ $1,000 for 4 years, leadership roles in school, church, or community that involve meaningful contribution to the effectiveness of that organization, 2 letters of recommendation, do not need to be present at Scholarship Day in February to apply.  Deadline:  February

Caterpillar/Central Community College- 5 @ $1,000, Must study in diesel tech. at Hastings campus, 3 letters of reference.  Deadline:  February

Central Community College Early Advantage Scholarship – several @ $700; ACT 21, GPA 2.5.  Deadline:  February 1

College of Hair Design in Lincoln- several between $500 to $1,000, must enroll next year in one of this college’s cosmetology programs, for more information on these scholarships, call 1-800-798-HAIR.

Creighton University Muchemore Forensics (speech & debate) Scholarship- 1 @ full tuition, participation in high school speech team, GPA of 3.0, must be willing to compete on Creighton's speech team as a college student.  Deadline:  February

Creighton University Christina Hixson Scholarship- 15 @ $4,500 x 3 years.  ACT 23, 250 word essay, must attend Creighton University, must major in business, preference given to students whose parents aren't college graduates.  Deadline:  February

Dakota Wesleyan University Scholarship- several awards are given up to full tuition, GPA 3.5, ACT 25, must attend the Scholarship Day in February to qualify. Call 1-800-333-8506.

Davis/Chambers Scholarship – may be used at most of the Nebraska Community Colleges, recognizes the most academically-talented, economically-disadvantaged, underrepresented, racial minority, must have the completed packet to the college Financial Aid office by February 1.

Dekalb Ag Youth Scholarship - 10 @ $2,500 must pursue an ag-related degree, strong leadership skills, community involvement, apply online. Deadline:  February

Americorp Education Award- $4,725 college scholarship for 1,700 hours of work for the Americorps National Service in a period of nine months, while working in these U.S. Government sponsored program you will receive in addition to the scholarship award a living allowance, room and board, health care, and will learn skills from construction to tutoring to environmental conservation, first aid among others.  This is an excellent way to learn and earn even through you would need to defer college for one year.  It is something like the Peace Corps except that all the work is done in the USA.  A good way to gain experience and earn college money.  Deadline:  March

UNL Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Honor Society Essay Scholarship- 1 @ $ 500, 1 @ $300, 1 @ $200, must attend UNL, must enroll in a political class in the fall (history, government- almost all college students have to take at least 1 class like this), 1 to 3 page essay on "Voter turnout in the USA tends to be lower than on other democratic countries.  Is this a problem?  Explain your answer. Would the Framers of the Constitution agree with you?  Why or Why not?" Essays must be double spaced and typed, quality of your answer is more important than quantity.  Deadline: March

Joshua Benson Memorial Scholarship – 1 @ $1,000; available to a senior who resides in Nebraska and is active in a form of martial arts (like Ta Kwan Do); two statements of character; essay; application.  Deadline:  April

Kayton International, INC Sponsorship Program - 3 @ tuition, tools, and books up to $8,000, must study in a two year program at a community college in Diesel Technology, GPA 2.5 in high school and in the college program when started, must work for Kayton International for 3 years after graduation.  Deadline:  April.
