Discussion/Action Items:

  1. After opening bids with the building committee and architect, the building committee recommended to accept the original base bid of $977,880.00 from RaDec Construction Co., Inc. with the change order options or Value Engineering Options 2 and 3 as presented by RaDec Construction. Option 2 moved the gutter and downspout system to the exterior of the building and reduced the original bid by $166,195.00 and option 3 reduced the bid by $10,347.00 if all ground repairs, seed prep work and seeding was done by the owner. Superintendent Thompson and the members of the building committee felt that the exterior downspout system was a better option than an interior system; it did not change the functionality, and it reduced the cost. They also felt it would be more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, because it would be difficult to match brick to the existing school.  With the change order Options 2 and 3 the original bid was reduced to $801,338.00, which was more in line with the approximate $800,000 that had been budgeted for the project.  After a short discussion and Superintendent Thompson sharing a model of the gutter system, Fritz moved to accept RaDec Construction Co., Inc.’s original bid with Value Engineering options two and three, for a total bid of $801,338.  Seconded by Borgmann.  RCV:  6-0.  Motion Carried.

At 7:27 p.m., Kuhlman moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Fritz. RCV:  6-0.  Motion carried.  The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Library.
