Creighton Basketball Teams Sweep Randolph

January 09, 2018

There was some exciting throwdowns on the basketball court at the Creighton gym on Friday night! Creighton swept all four games from good Randolph teams for the first time in many years. Both Cardinal teams were 6-3 coming in to tonight, and both games came down to the final seconds.

The girls kept it close the first half, played great defense, and never stopped hustling. The second half was back and forth with the Bulldogs taking a 1 point lead late in the game. Randolph had one last chance, as we fouled their best shooter with 2 seconds left. She missed the front end of a one and one and Creighton came away with a 43-42 victory. Ashtyn Fritz led the way with 15 points. Kasey Kuhl had 9 and came in clutch scoring 7 of them coming during crunch time in the 4th quarter. Sydney Walton scored 8, Jordyn Kuhl 7, and Charlize Wilmes and Clarissa Becker each had 2. This was the girls 4th victory.

The boys took an early lead in the first and then Randolph came back in the 2nd to make it fairly close. Leads went back and forth in the second half, and by the end of regulation it was tied. The game went to double overtime and it looked bad for the Bulldogs when Randolph took a 4 point lead. A three pointer by Chase Largen brought us closer but the Cardinals had a two point lead towards the end of the game. As time ran out Noah Lilly hit a three pointer at the buzzer for the 60-59 win as the crowd went wild and the team had a dog pile at center court. Clay Curtis scored 17 points, Noah Lilly had 15, and Chase Largen had 13. Also scoring were Carson Lilly 8, Wyatt Diedrichsen 4, and Conner Hammer 3. The Bulldogs have now won their last 5 games and improved to 8-3.

The girls JV led the win parade with a 13-6 victory in their 2 quarter game. Jessica Stevens scored 5, Kendyll Tiedtke 3, Alaina Farnik and Charlize Wilmes with 2 each, and Caitlyn Shefl with 1.

The boys JVs cruised to a 32-11 win in their 3 quarter game. They were led by Conner Hammer with 10 and Braxton Brockhaus with 8. Brian Johnson scored 6, and Sam Van Metre, Logan Eggers, Dylan Kuhlman, and Tyler Wagner all had 2 each.
