CHS Play Production takes Runner-Up at state!

by Becci Laflan

December 14, 2009

On Friday December 11, 2009, the CHS play production traveled to Kearney for State Play.  The team, coaches, and some supporters headed out of town at 6:00 A.M.  They arrived in Kearney around 9:45, just in time for the first play.  The contest started at 10:00 with Perkins County.  Other teams that qualified were Axtell, West Point Central Catholic, Stanton, and Johnson Brock.  The CHS team prepared most of the day during other performances for their performance at 1:45.  The teams state performance was the absolute best they did all season.  Almost immediately after "The Dis-(Con)-Certed Choir" performed, awards were held right their in the UNK theatre.  We had an outstanding number of outstanding performers.  The individuals that received an Outstanding performance award were Becci Laflan, Jenni Laflan, Riley Dohmen, Ally Von Seggern, Cale Dohmen, Aaron Von Seggern, Jordan Morrill, Becca Best, Anna Sorensen, and Zac Sorensen.  After all the outstanding performance awards were given to each team, everyone cleared the stage for the announcement of runner-up and champion.  Creighton was called first to receive the runner-up trophy, and then Stanton received the championship trophy.  The competition for the day was excellent, and I'm sure that the judges had a difficult time making their final decision.  Creighton ended up with two 2nd place ratings from two judges and a 4th place from the third judge.  Although our team did not end up as champions for the year, the time that was put into practices and performances was what made our team champions at heart.  This was a great way to end the 2009 play season.  Next years team has some high standards to live up to for the next play season.
